Not 2 B Taken Srsly
Tiled Poster Design
Not 2 B Taken Srsly is a collaborative project I conducted with fellow Boston University alum Kate Monroe. The project was inspired by, and somewhat responding to, the 40 Days of Dating project conducted by Timmothy Goodman and Jessica Walsh. Kate and I both felt the project was more comical than serious, and agreed to conduct the same project with more levity and informality—as college students should.
We began the project by spending an allotted amount of hours a day with each other, documenting each other's behaviors, mannerisms, and quirks. We would then share notes for the week with each other at the end of the week.
That process soon divulged into recording the hilarious, zany, and sometimes surprising moments of interaction. Ultimately, we had a collection of funny-and-just-a-bit-weird anecdotes from over the course of 40 days that could not be plotted in one straightforward timeline.
We felt that, to serve the project's findings justice, the recorded anecdotes would not be displayed in a conventional timeline. We further applied this principle in production, printing a tiled poster that could be broken down and rearranged.
Kate and I initially started the project to conduct Goodman and Walsh's project with more frivolity where we saw it was needed. Conversely, we began by adhering to a rigid system of procedure, unknowingly conducting the antithesis of our original intention. It was as our friendship began to bloom that we saw the error in that process, and adapted our process accordingly.
